Lesson 2: Northern lights

In today's lesson we looked at the Northern lights. We watched a small clip from the film 'The Golden Compass' and we explored Google Earth to try and find possible filming locations. We also tried to identify some features such as nunatak's, terminal moraines and iceburgs. To get a copy of the Svalbard Google Earth file click on the link. Once you have this you are free to explore the landscape on your own. Sadly, I am unable to add a download function direct from this blog. However, it is saved on the computer in my room so if you want a copy - let me know and I can try and e-mail it to you or put it on a USB drive for you.

Lesson 1: Svalbard

In lesson one, we looked at what Svalbard is like. You needed to produce a fact file on Svalbard and we discussed what the national seed bank is. For homework you need to design a new bank to store the seeds of endangered plants. For extra information about the construction of the current seed bank, visit the link above. This shall hopefully give you some idead about what you need to include in your bank. Have a look at the clip below, it shows the vault during construction.
